Why do we say ‘High Quality Canvas Prints’?
There are Canvas Prints and there are Canvas Prints, but what is the difference and does it matter to you?
We know you can have your canvas prints made by any number of internet websites or High Street stores, but if quality matters to you there are some questions you need to ask BEFORE parting with your money
1. High Street Shops or alternative website sizes and prices
If you’re happy to simply choose from a standard range of sizes and prices then go for it! But do consider your photograph before you choose a standard size and make sure the size you go for will really suit the photo, for example if you choose a square sized canvas you will lose a fair amount of a landscape or portrait photo!
WE OFFER STANDARD SIZES AND PRICES BUT WE ALSO OFFER A WHOLE RANGE OF ALTERNATIVE SIZES TOO AND IF WE BELIEVE A PHOTOGRAPH WOULD BEST SUIT A DIFFERENT SIZE TO THE ONE CHOSEN OR WOULD BENEFIT FURTHER FROM A CUSTOM SIZE THEN WE ADVISE AND PRICE ACCORDINGLY
2. What quality ‘canvas’ is used?
There is a range of ‘canvas’ material available. As a consumer you will need to decide whether or not it is important to you that you are actually buying a genuine ‘canvas’ print. Materials used include…
100% heavyweight cotton canvas
The real thing, luxurious feel and textured with a natural weave
A lighter weight material which is a mixture of cotton and polyester materials
100% synthetic material
WE ONLY USE 100% COTTON CANVAS
3. Are the inks used UV stable?
Check the quality of the inks used to print your image. In order to keep your print looking vibrant and long-lasting – even if exposed to sunlight – you should be reassured that the inks will have a long life span so your image will not fade over time.
WE ONLY USE EPSON ULTRACHROME INK WHICH IS UV STABLE AND WILL LAST UP TO 75 YEARS
4. Is the print varnished?
Varnishing a print will enhance the image and also protect it. Typically polycanvas materials will not be varnished and 100% thin synthetic materials definitely won’t be. If you try to clean an unvarnished canvas it will smudge the ink.
WE ALWAYS PROVIDE A PROTECTIVE AND COLOUR ENHANCING SPRAY APPLIED MATTE VARNISH
5. Is the print self-assembly?
If you are buying on price and the price seems ‘amazing’ are you sure you are not simply buying a ‘print’ that will arrive in a tube and you will have to assemble yourself or worse still have to source the frame and still have to stretch it yourself? In other words do you realise you will have to stretch the material over wooden / metal / plastic frames? If you are happy to do this then go for it but do consider to achieve a professional finish the process does require knowledge, skill and experience as well as some special tools.
ALL OUR PRINTS ARE HAND-STRETCHED OVER (TYPICALLY) 38 MM WOODEN FRAMES OBTAINED FROM SUSTAINABLE SUPPLIES
6. If you’re not sure what you want or if your image will be suitable to create a canvas print is there an expert you can just have a chat with?
As we say in Point 1 above are you happy with a standard size or would you like to discuss it; do you need a colour image changed to Black and White which is a whole subject in itself; what about if your original photograph is damaged and needs repair.
WE’RE ON THE END OF THE PHONE AND ALWAYS HAPPY TO DISCUSS YOUR NEEDS SO YOU GET JUST WHAT YOU WANT RATHER THAN JUST WHAT WE CAN PROVIDE FROM STOCK
7. Do you have to pay extra for the fitments to hang on the wall?
This isn’t a real issue but it is slightly irritating to have to pay extra for the fitments that you yourself will have to fit to the back of the print. Your print has arrived but it’s still not ready to hang on the wall, how frustrating is that?!
ALL OUR PRINTS ARE EITHER SAW-TOOTHED OR STRUNG AND ARRIVE READY TO HANG ON THE WALL
PS – if you have been led to believe ‘giclée’ is something special – it isn’t – it just means inkjet printed which is what every Printer does!
